Mechanical Services Technical Lead
Job Summary
The Mechanical Services Technical Lead is responsible for coordinating and executing mechanical maintenance, construction, and modification activities at Palouse Fiber Packaging and customer facilities. Working under the direction of the Project Manager, this role ensures that all mechanical work is completed safely, efficiently, and to specification.
The Mechanical Services Technical Lead serves as the primary on-site technical resource for mechanical systems and installations—providing expertise in alignment, welding, fabrication, and equipment setup. This position plays a key role in supporting plant uptime, project execution, and continuous improvement initiatives.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on, solutions-oriented technician or engineer who can effectively collaborate with production, project, and safety teams to deliver high-quality mechanical outcomes across Palouse Fiber’s operations and customer projects.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Maintenance
- Ensure all mechanical systems, components, and assemblies are maintained according to design, safety and performance standards
- Verify mechanical integrity, alignment and proper operation following maintenance or construction work
- Perform troubleshooting of mechanical equipment and systems
- Assist with planning and executing shutdowns, installations and maintenance to minimize downtime
- Support the development and implementation of preventative maintenance and corrective action programs for mechanical systems
- Review maintenance logs, shift reports and inspection data to identify potential mechanical issues
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams (other maintenance craft, engineering and operations) to ensure mechanical work aligns with budgets, timelines and quality requirements
Project & Construction Support
- Perform and coordinate all mechanical installations, repairs and modification work at Palouse Fiber and customer facilities
- Support equipment commissioning and performance validation efforts
- Provide mechanical expertise in attendance of project meetings
- Provide mechanical support to Project Manager for planning, scheduling and budgeting mechanical capital or customer projects
Safety and Compliance
- Maintain strict adherence to Palouse Fiber’s safety, environmental and quality procedures
- Ensure mechanical work practices comply with OSHA, environmental and site specific safety standards
- Participate in safety meetings, job hazard assessments and continuous safety improvement initiatives
- Identify and report unsafe conditions, mechanical hazards or process deviations promptly
Requirements
Experience: 5 years of hands on experience in mechanical maintenance, fabrication, industrial construction or a combination equaling 5 years in manufacturing, packaging or related environment
Education/Training: Journeyman certification (or equivalent) in mechanical trade (Millwright, Pipefitter, Diesel Mechanic, Industrial Mechanical Technician or similar)
Technical Skills:
- Expertise in mechanical assembly, welding, alignment, piping, hydraulics and pneumatic systems
- Proficiency in reading mechanical drawings and schematics
- Familiarity with equipment installation, mechanical troubleshooting and precision alignment
- Familiarity with centrifugal pumps, rotating assemblies and vacuum pump systems

- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while coordinating with project and production teams

Physical Requirements: Ability lift 40lbs or more, climb ladders, bend, kneel and perform physically demanding work.
